Department:  Research & Development
Job ID:  43042

If you’re passionate about changing lives for the better, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. In Research & Development, we’re continuously exploring innovative new treatment options to make a stronger, more positive impact on the lives of the patients we serve. You’ll work with talented colleagues in a state-of-the-art Research & Development environment, developing innovative medicines that change the live of patients for the better and help us make progress towards our vision of a world free of pain. Join us today, and discover the difference you can make.

What the job looks like
Each day you'll enjoy a variety of challenges, such as:

  • Drive development and implementation of innovative computational methods and techniques for identifying novel pain pathway and target insights, translational biomarkers and patient stratification.
  • Deliver data analytic platform to integrate single cell multiomics, functional genomics, and patient-level data leveraging AI/ML/DL techniques to identify novel drug targets in pain
  • Leverage genomic databases and advanced algorithms to (i) optimize oligonucleotides design for pain targets with high specificity & efficacy, (ii) identify sequence hotspots and activity predictors, (iii) assess cell type-specific effects of oligonucleotide treatments on known pain targets
  • Correlate genomic data (human genetics and functional genomic datasets) against clinical/patient phenotypic data to discover novel pain disease insights and biomarkers for response/resistance to therapy
  • Ensure findings from in silico work are appropriately incorporated into the asset strategies and more specifically into clinical translation and early clinical development plan (CDP) for the asset
  • Present and communicate key findings to relevant stakeholders to enable data-driven decision making across research pipeline.
  • Initiate, design and establish external collaborations anchored in in silico biology to inform target selection, efficacy/safety assessment and de-risking of assets
  • Be responsible to integrate other efforts within our research group focused on human cell-based models and systems biology

What you'll bring to the table
To make the most of this role and truly thrive, you should have:

  • PhD in artificial intelligence(AI)/machine learning (ML)/deep learning (DL)/computational biology/bioinformatics/systems biology with either postdoctoral and/or relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience in applying AI/ML/DL techniques and computational tools to drug development, including designing successful omics strategies for drug translation
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications that apply ML/DL/AI methods and biological interpretation to single cell multiomics and genomic data sets
  • Demonstrated recent ability to design and lead human omics studies (with a variety of study designs) delivering novel and actionable findings with measurable impact on R&D pipeline (e.g. generated novel targets/projects that advanced to clinical stage, identification of biomarkers used in pre/clinical settings)
  • Proven expertise in working with multiple omics data sets at bulk and single cell resolution
  • Expert in programming with R and/or Python
  • Broad experience in training and evaluating machine learning models leveraging frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch
  • Prior experience with high performance computing environments and cloud technology
  • In depth knowledge of various external databases employed in omics & systems biology research to be able to explore their applicability for Grunenthal portfolio
  • Fluent business English language skills in speaking and writing, German language skills beneficial
  • Broad international & intercultural working experience
