What the job looks like
Each day you´ll enjoy a variety of challenges, such as:
- Identifying highly innovative asset/platform opportunities, devising and proposing collaboration models in consultation with the Head of External Innovation and employing transaction structures and terms that are commercially and scientifically appropriate
- Leadership and management of cross-functional due diligence teams in addition to managing internal senior stakeholders
- Negotiation and closing of transactions by following appropriate review and approval processes
- Developing deep understanding of scientific innovation and the innovation landscape in pain and developing a network and method to systematically identify innovative opportunities
- Building and maintaining close relationships with appropriate external sources of innovation including entrepreneurs, academics, key opinion leaders, biotech companies and venture capitalists
- Contributing to opportunity landscaping and competitive intelligence activities and maintenance of internal deal and competitive intelligence databases
- Regular attendance at industry events such as conferences
What you´ll bring to the table
To make the most of this role and truly thrive, you should have:
- MD or PhD in Life Sciences
- 5+ years relevant work experience in Business Development within pharma/biotech and experience from an investment bank or life sciences venture capital fund or a top tier management consultancy firm
- Deep understanding of pharma R&D including regulatory and commercial aspects and deep understanding of the latest market dynamics
- Evidence of negotiating and closing transactions
- Proven strategic thinking capabilities and living entrepreneurship (e.g. thinks and acts strategically, spots trends, plans long-term and creates opportunities for growth)
- International/intercultural working experience and broad international network in pharmaceutical industry / academia
- Collaborative and integrating working attitude with ability of skillful moderation of scientific expert groups
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to manage cross-functional teams
- Fluent in English, working knowledge of German beneficial but not essential
- Willingness to travel within EU and US
