What the job looks like
Each day you'll enjoy a variety of challenges, such as:
- Develop Liquid Chromatography (LC) methods for analytics and purification, covering a broad range from small molecules (SMOL) to biomolecules like Oligonucleotides in a non-regulated, highly flexible Drug Discovery Research environment
- Within a team of Analytical Scientists host our landscape of 14 LC & SFC systems equipped with DAD, ELSD, CAD, SQD, TOF, QTRAP detectors (Waters, Agilent, Sciex, ThermoFisher)
- Spent 50% of at the bench and ensure daily operational readiness of LC systems, software and databases – keep oversight of trouble shooting, maintenance & repairing
- Collaborate in cross-functional teams to develop new LC-MS applications for driving our Drug Discovery projects (e.g. MS-based assays or quantification) and to support internal SMOL and Oligonucleotide synthesis in an highly automated laboratory setup
- Evaluate new technologies and instruments to enhance our analytical capabilities and to improve workflow efficiency – outline a fit-for-future plan of the analytics landscape
- Mentor junior scientists in experiment design, data analysis and on career development
- Ideally combine your LC-MS and NMR knowledge for structure elucidation of SMOLs, synthesis side products, peptides and Oligonucleotides
- Occasionally manage on demand external CRO analytics like UV-VIS, GC, XRPD, DSC to cover our projects’ needs inclusive data analysis and interpretation

- 3+ years industry experience or comparable analytics career in academia in the field of Liquid Chromatography paired with a deep expertise in LC-MS and SFC-MS, ideally basic knowledge further analytical characterization methods
- Proven track record of LC-analytics and method development for SMOLs, Peptides & Oligonucleotides (esp. ASOs)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and maintain instruments and automation workflows
- Expert knowledge of LC-MS hardware from different vendors and of associated analysis and automation software (MassHunter, MassLynx, Chromeleon, Analyst, Virsicidian Analytical Studio)
- Ideally 1D/2D-NMR measurement, interpretation and structure elucidation skills and knowledge of MestreLabs MNova software & automation tools
- Demonstrated successful implementation of new technologies & optimized processes
