Department:  Research & Development
Job ID:  38143

If you’re passionate about changing lives for the better, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. In Research & Development, we’re continuously exploring innovative new treatment options to make a stronger, more positive impact on the lives of the patients we serve. You’ll work with talented colleagues in a state-of-the-art Research & Development environment, developing innovative medicines that change the live of patients for the better and help us make progress towards our vision of a world free of pain. Join us today, and discover the difference you can make.

What the job looks like
Each day you'll enjoy a variety of challenges, such as:

  • You are committed to engage with, broaden, enhance and support Grünenthal’s capabilities in identifying and validating novel targets relevant to our mission.
  • You will join an existing systems biology team that is embedded in the Target Incubator Unit (TIU) and that actively collaborates and scientifically engages across all teams and departments associated with Grünenthal’s Research and Development.
  • You will join an omics-guided approach to identify and prioritize novel genes, targets, biomarkers and pathways implicated in selected pain indications, and to use them to predict previously unexplored mechanisms for therapeutic intervention.
  • You will work with the systems biology team to keep track of state of the art omics tools and data bases. You will also work alongside translational disease model scientists and the computational biology team to integrate in house-generated omics data to understand the molecular logic underpinning disease progression in key pain indications.
  • You will contribute to developing the appropriate assays for benchmarking of translationally-relevant systems and confirmation of hypotheses generated based on omics data derived from both in house and public data repositories.
  • You will join a team that are responsible for developing and establishing global multi-omics workflows for the assessment of biological samples. You will advance platform technologies like single cell RNA seq, bulk transcriptomics, genomics (SNP), metabolomics, proteomics, high content imaging and flow-based assays for characterization of in vitro & in vivo target biology, interactomes and signaling pathways.
  • You will also engage in many of the wider initiatives and goals of the Target Incubator Unit and will be actively encouraged to broaden your skills by learning from other stakeholders throughout R & D.

What you'll bring to the table
To make the most of this role and truly thrive, you should have:

  • You have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biochemistry or a related-discipline potentially with some experience of working on systems biology-based studies.
  • You are experienced in progressing experimental plans to generate data that accurately reflects the relevant biological questions. You will be enthusiastic to learn new systems biology research pipelines and the associated challenges of experimental set up and analysis.
  • You will ideally have some bioinformatic experience of processing large ‘OMIC’-derived datasets and a willingness to adopt new analysis solutions where necessary. You may have already demonstrated skills in the analysis of multiple large omics datasets such as (single-cell) transcriptomics and proteomics.
  • You may have a familiarity of omics project execution and a strong willingness to actively learn in this area
  • You may have some experience to set-up and manage external omics collaborations with academic collaborators and contract research organizations.
  • Experience with sourcing and quality control of biospecimens would be beneficial.
