What the job looks like
Each day you'll enjoy a variety of challenges, such as:

  • Accountable for expert functional input to create and deliver from target idea to successful proof-of-concept clinical trial
  • Setting strategies and priorities for identification of clinical candidates and driving critical path on drug discovery objectives.
  • Independently design, plan, execute the synthesis of small molecules and interpret complex activities to identify high quality clinical candidates.
  • Be in charge of leading a team of Medicinal Chemists including all relevant line management responsibilities (e.g. performance & development management, resource planning, etc.)
  • Responsible for performance and motivation of internal team and external providers to maximize efficiency and quality. Ensuring professional development of team members, identifying and promoting key talent
  • Drive and optimize the DMTA (design, make, test, analyze) cycle to optimize on efficiency as well as on high quality design based on deep data analysis and visualization (liaise with Computational Chemists)
  • Present chosen molecules based on medicinal chemist expertise to matrix project teams with the objective to deliver appropriate drug candidates which aligns / buys into our strategy
  • Analyze and interpret data from different sources and draw relevant conclusions

What you'll bring to the table
To make the most of this role and truly thrive, you should have:

  • At least 15 years of industry experience in small molecule drug discovery, including at least 5 years in other modalities like PROTAC, oligonucleotide therapeutics, etc
  • Strong track record of scientific innovation in medicinal chemistry and success in delivering high quality clinical candidates (>3)
  • Proven expertise in Synthetic Chemistry/ Medicinal Chemistry/Pre-clinical Development ranging from Target Identification to PoC
  • Substantial track record of innovation and milestone delivery in drug discovery projects across both early and late discovery phase and into clinical testing
  • Broad experience developing people and mentoring group members 
  • Fluent business English language skills in speaking and writing, good communication.
  • Truth seeking and delivery focused, driven/passionate scientists with strong focus on creating value, problem solving and making things happen: role model
  • Excellent understanding of drug discovery, various hit finding strategies, multi-parameter optimization and IP strategies
  • Excellent understanding of the external CRO provider landscape
  • Highly flexible in adapting methods/skills according to evolving project priorities
